Infections Managed in the Clinic and a Systemic Approach
Infectious diseases is a multifaceted field of medicine that is not confined to a single part of the human body but can affect all systems from head to toe via the bloodstream and lymphatic system. At the Egemed Hospitals Infectious Diseases Clinic, we evaluate all microbial diseases—ranging from the respiratory tract to the digestive system, and from the urinary system to the nervous system—in patients receiving outpatient or inpatient care, in accordance with current medical guidelines.

Respiratory Tract Infections
This is the most common and highly contagious group of infections in the general population. In the upper respiratory tract, conditions such as pharyngitis (sore throat), tonsillitis (inflammation of the tonsils), acute sinusitis, and influenza (the flu) are treated. In the lower respiratory tract, cases of bronchitis and pneumonia ( inflammation of lung tissue) are treated. Pneumonia cases, particularly in the elderly and patients with COPD, are closely monitored in a hospital setting with intravenous (IV) treatments to prevent progression to respiratory failure.
Urinary Tract Infections
It presents with symptoms such as frequent urination, a burning sensation during urination, lower abdominal pain, and blood in the urine. Cases of Acute Cystitis (bladder infection) —which is more common in women due to anatomical differences—and Pyelonephritis (kidney infection), a more serious condition, are treated at our clinic. Especially in cases of recurrent urinary tract infections caused by resistant bacteria, urine cultures and antibiotic susceptibility testing are performed to determine targeted, long-term antibiotic regimens.
Gastrointestinal Infections
Food- and waterborne illnesses, which become more common during the summer months, include acute gastroenteritis (inflammation of the stomach and intestines), dysentery, typhoid fever, and parasitic infections. In these conditions, which are characterized by severe nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, the greatest risk is dehydration (severe fluid loss). We identify the causative agent (bacteria, amoeba, or virus) through stool analysis, and in a hospital setting, we plan fluid and electrolyte replacement therapy along with appropriate antimicrobial treatment.
