Egemed Clinical Psychology Unit: A Journey Toward Mental Well-being and Self-Discovery
Human life is a dynamic journey filled with joys, successes, losses, traumas, and unexpected crises. In today’s fast-paced and stressful living conditions, maintaining balance in one’s emotional, cognitive, and social life has become the most critical component of overall well-being. The Clinical Psychology Unit at Egemed Hospitals utilizes modern psychotherapy techniques and scientific assessment methods to provide professional guidance to our clients as they work to understand themselves, resolve internal conflicts, and navigate their healing journeys.
The psychological support process is a preventive and restorative healthcare service that comes into play not only during severe mental health crises but at every point where an individual seeks to improve their quality of life, strengthen their decision-making skills, and find inner peace.

One of the topics our patients are most curious about is the difference between these two fields. Psychiatrists are medical doctors; they investigate the biological (brain chemistry) causes of mental illnesses and prescribe medication (pharmacological treatment). Clinical psychologists, on the other hand, are professionals specialized in the field of psychology; they do not prescribe medication. Instead, they aim to change a person’s thought, emotion, and behavior patterns and strengthen coping mechanisms through “psychotherapy (talk therapy).” At our hospital, these two units work as an inseparable whole (multidisciplinary team) to ensure the patient receives the greatest possible benefit.
Main Services Offered by the Clinical Psychology Unit
In all processes that directly impact mental health, our expert clinical psychologists provide services using evidence-based methods tailored to the developmental dynamics of each age group:
Individual Adult Therapy
These are one-on-one sessions designed to help clients overcome depression, generalized anxiety, panic disorder, phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anger management issues, low self-esteem, and the grieving process.
Child and Adolescent Counseling
This counseling service is provided in collaboration with parents to address issues such as behavioral disorders in childhood, bedwetting, school adjustment problems, and peer bullying; as well as identity exploration, test anxiety, family conflicts, and technology/gaming addiction during adolescence.
Family and Couples Therapy
These are joint sessions aimed at repairing the dynamics of the relationship, addressing issues such as communication problems in marriage, infidelity, severe incompatibility, managing the impact of divorce proceedings on children, and setting boundaries.
Psychometric Assessments and Objective Tests
When necessary, following a referral from our psychiatrists or pediatricians, our specialist psychologists administer and report on Psychological Tests, Intelligence and Developmental Tests (WISC-R, MMPI, Denver, etc.), and Personality Analyses in accordance with international standards to support the diagnostic process.
Psychotherapy Schools and Scientific Approaches
In our department, we apply up-to-date, evidence-based psychotherapy approaches that meet global standards and are best suited to the patient’s needs and clinical presentation:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
It focuses on how our thoughts influence our emotions and behaviors. It is a goal-oriented therapy that teaches us to identify irrational and negative thought patterns (cognitive distortions) and replace them with healthy and realistic thoughts; it is considered the gold standard, particularly for depression and anxiety disorders.
EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
It facilitates the reprocessing of traumatic memories from the past—such as accidents, abuse, natural disasters, or violence—that the brain has been unable to process, by using eye movements or bilateral stimulation to stimulate both the right and left hemispheres of the brain. The memory itself is not erased, but the pain and psychological burden it causes are alleviated.
Schema Therapy
It is a more in-depth therapeutic approach aimed at breaking the destructive life patterns (schemas) formed in adulthood as a result of unmet basic emotional needs (security, love, and a sense of worth) during childhood. It is highly effective in addressing chronic relationship issues.
Play Therapy
For children, the means of self-expression is not words, but play. Through play sessions conducted in specially designed playrooms under the guidance of a therapist, children are able to externalize the conflicts, fears, and traumas within their inner world, thereby facilitating their healing.
Principle of Confidentiality and Medical Ethics
At Egemed Hospitals, we believe that safeguarding mental health is the key to social well-being. The therapy room is a "Safe Space" where you are in complete control, listened to without judgment, and accepted unconditionally . All information you share with your therapist is legally protected under medical confidentiality .
