What You Need to Know Before Coming to the Emergency Room

Essential Information to Know When Visiting the Emergency Room

In the event of a medical emergency or accident, it is vital not to panic, to take the right steps, and to make the medical team’s job easier. At Egemed Hospital, we strongly urge you to pay attention to certain details when coming to our emergency department or while waiting for an ambulance, so that we can provide you with the fastest and safest care possible.

Things to Keep in Mind When Coming to the Emergency Room

⚠️ Time Saves Lives

In emergencies, it is often safer to call a fully equipped ambulance rather than using your own vehicle. Suffering a heart attack or losing consciousness while on the road can lead to secondary accidents. In high-risk situations, please call the Egemed Ambulance Network directly for assistance.

What to Bring (Packing List)

  • Identification Document: To ensure that official registration procedures proceed smoothly and that the patient’s medical history can be quickly retrieved from the system, the patient must have their Turkish ID Card or Passport (for foreign nationals) with them at all times.

  • List of Medications: It is critical to know the names of any blood pressure, diabetes, heart, blood-thinning, or psychiatric medications the patient takes regularly to ensure that new treatments administered in the emergency department do not cause drug interactions. Please bring the medications themselves or a list of them with you.

  • Allergies: If you have allergies to any medications (especially penicillin or pain relievers) or foods, be sure to inform your doctor or nurse of this during your initial examination.

  • Previous Medical Records: If available and easily accessible, please bring recent discharge summaries, angiography results, or important laboratory test results with you.

Visitor and Companion Policies

Emergency departments are areas where the risk of infection is high and healthcare personnel must act quickly. To ensure the safety and privacy of our patients, it is essential to follow the rules below:

    • ✓ Only one (1) companion is permitted per patient in the examination area and observation rooms.

    • ✓ During red-zone interventions, such as multiple trauma cases or CPR (resuscitation), the area is completely cleared, and the patient’s family members are directed to a designated waiting area.

  • ✓ Food or drink should not be given to a patient in the emergency department without the knowledge of the medical staff (the patient may need to undergo emergency surgery).
