Suspected Immunodeficiency

The Hidden Danger Behind Frequent Illness: Immune Deficiency

Everyone gets an infection from time to time. However, frequent recurrences of infections, unusually severe symptoms, and a lack of response to standard antibiotic treatments are the strongest indicators that the immune system has failed in terms of production or function (immunodeficiency). At Egemed Hospital, we identify this critical condition in its early stages and provide treatment.

Symptoms and Tests for Immunodeficiency (Immune System Failure)

⚠️ 6 Critical Symptoms That May Indicate Immune Deficiency

If you are experiencing one or more of the following conditions, it is crucial that you visit our clinic for an immune system screening:

1. Having more than four new cases of ear infection (middle ear infection) within a year.
2. Experiencing two or more severe sinusitis episodes within a year.
3. Having pneumonia more than twice in a year.
4. Having to take antibiotics continuously for more than two months to treat infections.
5. Recurrent deep abscesses in the skin, internal organs, or mouth, and persistent fungal infections.
6. Growth and developmental delays in children (failure to gain weight, failure to grow taller).

Our Approach to Diagnosis and Assessment

For patients suspected of having an immunodeficiency, after obtaining a detailed family history, the levels of immune cells (T and B lymphocytes) in the blood and the production capacity of antibodies (Immunoglobulin A, G, M, E) are analyzed in our state-of-the-art laboratory. Depending on the identified deficiency, the patient is started on exogenous protective antibody supplements (IVIG—intravenous immunoglobulin therapy) or prophylactic (preventive) medication regimens to ensure the patient can lead a normal and healthy life.
