[ Spinal Trauma and Fracture Surgery ]

Spinal fractures, dislocations, or spinal cord injuries can result from traffic accidents, falls from heights, or workplace accidents.

  • Emergency surgery is scheduled in cases where the fracture is compressing the spinal canal and poses a risk of paralysis.
  • In cases of trauma where the spinal column’s structural integrity is compromised, stabilization surgeries—known as instrumentation ( using plates and screws) —are performed to support the patient’s anatomical structure.
  • In compression fractures caused by advanced age or osteoporosis, minimally invasive procedures such as bone cement injection (kyphoplasty/vertebroplasty) may be preferred.

 

[ Peripheral Nerve Compression ]

When nerves pass through narrow channels in various parts of the body, they may become compressed, leading to numbness, tingling, and muscle weakness. The most common examples include:

  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: This condition involves compression of the median nerve in the wrist. It is characterized by numbness in the hand, which tends to worsen at night.
  • Cubital Tunnel Syndrome: Numbness in the little and ring fingers occurs as a result of compression of the ulnar nerve in the elbow region.
  • In cases of severe nerve compression confirmed by EMG (electromyography), treatment is typically provided through short-term microsurgical procedures performed under local anesthesia to release the nerve.
