Screening and Preventive Health

The Philosophy of Preventive Health and the Ideal Timing for Annual Screenings

Contrary to popular belief, medicine is not merely a place to turn to when you fall ill. The philosophy of preventive (protective) healthcare involves monitoring the body’s functions while it is still healthy in order to eliminate the physical, psychological, and economic burdens associated with treating illness. Health screenings are the most valuable investment an individual can make in their own body.

Preventive Health Screenings and Check-up Scheduling

[ What Time of Year Is Best for a Check-Up? ]

There is no medically designated "mandatory" month or season for general health screenings. However, there are important timing considerations to keep in mind to ensure that test results provide the most objective and accurate data:

  • Acute Illnesses: It is not recommended to undergo a check-up while you are suffering from severe influenza, a serious infection, or a febrile illness. During this time, markers of infection in the blood (such as CRP and white blood cell count) will be elevated, so test results will not accurately reflect your overall health. A check-up should be scheduled at least 1–2 weeks after you have fully recovered.
  • "Birthdays" for Establishing a Routine: The most important feature of check-up programs is that they are "regular." To ensure these check-ups—which are recommended once a year—are not forgotten, a practical approach frequently suggested in the medical community is to schedule them during the week of the person’s birthday.
  • Seasonal Transitions: The early fall and spring, when the immune system is under strain and allergic reactions increase, may be good times to assess your overall health and check your vitamin and mineral levels (especially vitamin D and B12).
  • Menstrual Cycle for Our Female Patients: To ensure that gynecological examinations and urine tests do not yield misleading results, it is medically preferable to schedule appointments on days when menstrual bleeding is not occurring.
