MRI

Magnetic Resonance (MR) Imaging is an advanced diagnostic method that uses powerful magnetic fields and radio waves to produce exceptionally detailed images of the body’s internal structures. The MR technology used in the Radiology Department at Egemed Hospital serves as the gold standard in treatment planning, enabling the detection of even the smallest abnormalities, particularly in soft tissues, the nervous system, and joint structures.

"An MRI machine does not emit radiation (X-rays). Thanks to this feature, it is a technology that can be safely used for follow-up examinations and in high-risk patient groups."

Key Features of MRI Imaging

  • Zero Radiation: With its radiation-free design, it is safe for many patient groups, including pregnant women during certain stages of pregnancy and children.
  • Advanced Soft Tissue Imaging: Provides much clearer and more detailed images of muscle, ligament, cartilage, and organ structures compared to other methods.
  • Multidimensional Imaging: By using cross-sections taken from different planes of the body, the exact location and extent of diseases can be clearly determined.
  • Functional Evaluation: When necessary, contrast agents are used to accurately analyze the characteristics of tumors and vascular structures.

In Which Cases Is an MRI Recommended?

MRI, one of the most powerful diagnostic tools in modern medicine, is widely used at our hospital:

Neurology: Monitoring of brain tumors, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, and stroke. Spinal Health: Lumbar and cervical herniated discs, spinal stenosis.
Orthopedics: Meniscus, anterior cruciate ligament, and tendon injuries. Oncology: Detection and staging of tumors.
Abdominal Examinations: Liver, pancreas, and prostate diseases. Women's Health: Examination of the uterus and ovaries.

What You Need to Know About the MRI Scan Process

Preparation: Before entering the MRI scan, you must remove any metal or magnetic objects you are wearing, such as watches, keys, jewelry, or credit cards. Patients with prosthetics, pacemakers, or stents must inform our specialist before the scan.

During the Procedure: You will lie down in the tunnel section of the machine on a movable table. The procedure takes between 15 and 45 minutes, depending on the area being treated. You will hear rhythmic sounds from the machine during this process; for your comfort, our hospital will provide you with personal headphones or earplugs.

Comfort and Results: The procedure is completely painless. You can resume your daily activities immediately after the scan is complete. Your detailed report, prepared by our specialist radiologists, will be sent to your doctor via our digital systems as soon as possible.
