Gynecological Exams, Screenings, Menstrual Irregularities, and Menopause
Gynecological Evaluation and Preventive Women's Health
The female reproductive system is in a state of constant change, influenced by the complex interplay of hormones, genetic factors, and environmental influences. At the Egemed Hospitals Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic, we embrace the philosophy of "preventive medicine," which aims to take proactive measures before diseases develop.

[ When Is a Gynecological Examination Necessary? ]
Although people in our society typically visit a doctor only when they have a specific complaint, it is medically necessary for every woman of reproductive age to undergo a routine gynecological examination at least once a year. In addition, the following situations require immediate medical attention:
- Intermenstrual bleeding or bleeding after sexual intercourse.
- Vaginal discharge that is malodorous, discolored, frothy, or causes itching (suspected infection).
- Chronic pain in the lower abdomen (pelvic area) that does not go away, and groin pain.
- Any type of vaginal bleeding that occurs after menopause (This is a very serious symptom and should be evaluated immediately).
[ Irregular Periods, Pain, and Hormonal Issues ]
A normal menstrual cycle typically lasts between 21 and 35 days. If this duration is exceeded, or if the amount of bleeding is too light or too heavy, it is a sign of a hormonal imbalance.
- Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS): A metabolic disorder characterized by irregular periods, excessive hair growth, weight gain, and small cysts on the ovaries. At our clinic, we diagnose PCOS using ultrasound and a hormone panel (FSH, LH, prolactin, thyroid hormones, etc.), and then develop a treatment plan that includes medical nutrition and medication.
- Dysmenorrhea (Painful Menstruation): Severe menstrual cramps that interfere with daily life should not be considered normal. The underlying cause—such as fibroids, adenomyosis, or endometriosis (chocolate cysts)—is investigated, and treatment is tailored to address the specific cause.
[ Menopause Counseling ]
Menopause is a natural biological phase of a woman’s life, but the hormonal changes it brings (estrogen deficiency) can significantly impact quality of life. To address hot flashes, sleep disturbances, vaginal dryness, bone loss (osteoporosis), and the risk of heart disease, our clinic offers personalized management plans (including Hormone Replacement Therapy when necessary) and preventive health screenings (bone densitometry, mammography).
