Egemed Medical Laboratories: The Center for Accurate Diagnosis, Science, and Technology

In the world of modern medicine, the cornerstone of a successful treatment process is the accurate, rapid, and definitive diagnosis of a disease. Medical laboratories, which reveal cellular, chemical, and microbiological details invisible to the naked eye, are the most indispensable unit of a hospital that provides high-quality and comprehensive services.

Within Egemed Hospitals, our Biochemistry, Clinical Microbiology, and Pathology Laboratories operate in an integrated manner, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, a team of specialized physicians, and experienced laboratory technicians. By bringing the quality and test diversity standards of national and international reference laboratories to our hospital, we provide uninterrupted diagnostic services with an extensive test menu ranging from routine blood counts to the most specific serological tests, and from advanced microbiological cultures to molecular genetic analyses.

Egemed Hospital Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Pathology Laboratory

24/7 Uninterrupted Service and Fully Automated Operations

Illnesses and emergencies do not adhere to a schedule. With this in mind, our laboratories, emergency department, and inpatient units operate 24 hours a day, without interruption.

Samples collected from patients reach our center within seconds via modern pneumatic (tube-based transport) systems, without human contact. Sample reception, barcoding, microscopic examination, and culture inoculation are fully integrated and managed through a computer-supported Laboratory Information System (LIS). Samples are processed and recorded in the system as quickly as possible, taking into account the evaluation time (incubation) required by the test. Once results are confirmed, our patients do not need to visit the laboratory again; they can access their results immediately through the relevant outpatient clinic reception desks, physicians’ screens, or our online system.

Our Laboratory Equipment and State-of-the-Art Infrastructure

To ensure that all microbiological and biochemistry procedures for diagnostic purposes can be performed safely and quickly, our laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment that guarantees 100% safety for both staff and specimens:

Class II Biological Safety Cabinet

This is a critical containment system that ensures high-risk specimens suspected of containing bacteria or viruses can be safely processed (cultured) under a completely sterile (HEPA-filtered) and negative-pressure airflow environment without contaminating the external environment or laboratory personnel.

Microbiological Incubator

These are specialized incubators designed to precisely replicate the conditions of the human body (ideal temperature of 35–37 °C) to allow microorganisms to multiply after the inoculation of sterile body fluids and tissue samples.

Automated Blood Culture Analyzer

It continuously monitors blood culture samples taken in life-threatening conditions—such as sepsis (blood poisoning)—where every second counts. Thanks to its built-in optical system, it alerts the physician the moment bacterial growth begins, ensuring that life-saving treatment can be initiated quickly.

Advanced Light Microscopes (2 Units)

The high-resolution optical light microscopes in our laboratory are our specialists’ most valuable tools for the immediate identification of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, urine sediment analysis, and direct parasite examination.

Comprehensive Test Panel and Materials

Comprehensive Test Menu at Reference Laboratory Standards

Guided by our vision as a national reference laboratory, our center performs a wide range of analyses, from the detection of specific infections to biochemical panels:

• Special Stains and Cultures: ARB staining and TB culture, which are critical for diagnosing tuberculosis (TB); Antibiotic Susceptibility (Antibiogram) tests, which enable rational antibiotic use in all types of infections; and various microbiological cell stains.

• Advanced Serological Tests: These tests measure the body’s defense mechanisms (antibodies) against infections. At our clinic, Brucella Rose-Bengal, Brucella Standard Tube Agglutination (Wright Test), and Salmonella (Typhoid) Agglutination Tests are routinely performed with high specificity and reliability.

• Biochemistry and Pathology: Routine blood counts, hormone panels (thyroid, fertility, etc.), tumor markers (cancer markers), allergy panels, and histopathological examinations of tissues obtained from surgical procedures are flawlessly managed from a single center.
