Laboratory Test Guide: Tests Beginning with the Letter "Z"

A complete list of all tests beginning with the letter "Z" performed at Egemed Hospitals’ Medical Laboratories is provided below. To help our patients understand these tests in advance, a brief medical description of each test group and its intended laboratory use are clearly stated.

 Hematology and Oncology Tests

 ZAP70 PANEL

Description: This is a specific hematological analysis that uses an advanced technology called flow cytometry to determine whether the ZAP-70 protein is present within abnormal B lymphocytes in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL).

Objective: To predict the clinical course (prognosis) of CLL (blood cancer) and how aggressive it will be, in order to develop the most appropriate early treatment or monitoring plan for the patient.

 Immunology and Autoimmunity Tests

 ZINC TRANSPORTER 8 (ZnT8) ANTIBODY

Description: This is a blood test to measure autoantibodies—antibodies mistakenly produced by the immune system—against the Zinc Transporter 8 (ZnT8) protein found in the beta cells of the pancreas, which produce and store insulin.

Purpose: To definitively prove that Type 1 diabetes, which occurs particularly in children and adolescents, is caused by an autoimmune (immune system) response and to clearly distinguish it from Type 2 diabetes.
