Laboratory Test Guide: Tests Beginning with a Number or Special Character

A complete list of all tests performed at Egemed Hospitals’ Medical Laboratories—including those that begin with a number or a special character—is provided below. To help our patients understand these tests in advance, a brief medical description of each test group and its intended laboratory use are clearly stated.

 Biochemistry, Endocrinology, and Vitamin Tests

 1 25-Dihydroxyvitamin D Serum

Description: This is a blood test that measures the "most active and potent" form of vitamin D, which is produced after vitamin D is processed by the kidneys.

Objective: To investigate vitamin D metabolism in patients with kidney failure, to identify the cause of unexplained calcium abnormalities, and to diagnose parathyroid gland disorders.

 17-Hydroxyprogesterone

Description: This is the blood level of a very important precursor enzyme used in the production of the hormone cortisol in the adrenal glands.

Objective: To diagnose the genetic condition "Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH)," which is particularly common in infants and children, and to investigate the cause of excessive hair growth (hirsutism) in women.

 25-OH Vitamin D

Description: This measurement reflects the body’s overall vitamin D stores and is the primary indicator that best reflects vitamin D levels derived from sunlight and diet.

Purpose: This test is routinely ordered to detect common vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency in the general population, assess the risk of osteoporosis, and maintain bone health.

 Genetic and Molecular Hematology Tests

 20q12 (D20S108) DELETION

Description: This is the genetic screening for structural chromosome losses (deletions) occurring in the "q12" subregion of human chromosome 20.

Objective: To predict the course of the disease (prognosis) in patients with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and other bone marrow disorders by determining their genetic profile.

 20q13.2 (LSI ZNF217) DELETION

Description: Detection of deletions in the "q13.2" region on chromosome 20 (ZNF217 gene region) using advanced genetic testing (FISH).

Objective: To guide the development of targeted drug therapies by mapping the genetic profile of various blood cancers as well as certain solid tumors.

 5q33-q34 (CSF1R) DELETION

Description: This is the detection of breaks in a specific region of the long arm of chromosome 5 (5q) using molecular probes.

Objective: To diagnose "5q- (minus) syndrome," which causes unexplained cellular decreases in the blood count, and to confirm the patient's eligibility for targeted chemotherapy (lenalidomide).

 7q22/del 7q35 (MDS) DELETION

Description: This test screens for DNA losses (7q deletions) in critical regions of chromosome 7 that control cell proliferation.

Objective: To assess the progression, severity, and risk of transformation to leukemia (AML) in cases of bone marrow failure (Myelodysplastic Syndrome—MDS) observed in older adults.

 7 q31 DELETION

Description: This refers to the detection of a deletion occurring in the q31-specific band of chromosome 7, which leads to the loss of tumor suppressor genes.

Purpose: This test is part of an advanced technology panel that is required for the genetic risk stratification of patients during the clinical diagnosis and follow-up of blood cancers (acute myeloid leukemia and MDS).
