Description: This is a classic serological blood test used to detect infections caused by bacteria of the genus Rickettsia; it indirectly measures antibodies against these bacteria in the blood using the "cross-reaction" (agglutination) method.
Purpose: This test is used to diagnose "typhus" (spotted fever), a disease transmitted to humans primarily through tick, louse, or flea bites and characterized by high fever and a rash.
